Chaplaincy @ King's

The Chaplains at King’s have the privilege of journeying with many people throughout the year – students, staff and parents. There are many interactions of talking, sharing, praying and encouraging … helping each other to walk closer with God in their daily journey. Each day brings new issues and topics to discuss and explore, seeing staff, students, parents, and families grapple with real issues in their lives, and move on in positive ways.

The Chaplains’ days are filled with a variety of experiences. Meeting with individual students, staff and parents to offer support, a listening ear, and helping to find a positive path into the future; guiding the development of the R-12 Faith Studies curriculum; guiding the development of the school’s Service Learning program.

Students are referred to the Chaplains’ through parents, staff or themselves. Parents are also welcome to contact the Chaplains for support.

Kathryn Churchett

Golden Grove Baptist Church has been my spiritual home for the last 11 years. My childhood was spent in the Adelaide Hills, and I moved to Para Vista with my parents at the end of my schooling. An eagerness to help children grow in faith lead me to study at Burleigh Theological College and from there I moved to Sydney. For 12 years I was the Children’s Pastor at Menai Baptist, followed by 5 years working for Baptist Churches of NSW&ACT writing a curriculum for teaching SRE (Scripture) in public Schools.

Sensing the pastoral heart beating strongly within, I moved back to Adelaide, taking up the joint role of Children’s Pastor at Tea Tree Gully Baptist Church (now GGBC) and as one of the Chaplains at King’s Baptist Grammar School.

Over the years of ministry with children, a passion for providing faith learning and worship experiences that catered for a wide variety of learning and expressive styles grew. This flowed over into my own personal life, and then into exploring worship experiences for the whole church community. My role at King’s continues to provide the opportunity to continue this exploration for staff and students.

To relax, you might find me curled up with my two cats, Shasta and Velvet, watching a good DVD; pretending to garden, and hoping my Dad’s green thumb finally finds its expression through me; sorting through copious photos and scrap booking my heritage and story; enjoying good coffee and good food with friends.
