We strive to instil in every student…
A readiness for life beyond the classroom, through a breadth of opportunities and experiences they will draw on for the rest of their lives.
In Themselves
Students who know who they are. Goal-oriented, self-motivated and confident in their own ability to succeed, whatever their goals.
With Others
Loving, empathetic, responsible leaders who are known, loved and seen within the King’s Community. Students who know we are better, together as a community because of their own contribution.
Leadership
In-house programs, participation opportunities and leadership development are available across the life of the school. As a Senior School student, this expands to a wide variety of cross-community and cross-school engagement, where students are encouraged to be accountable, pastoral and servant leaders.
Mindsets
In their final years, we mark the transition from teenager to young adult ready to take on the world, and we treat them accordingly.
Students are encouraged to explore ideas, be independent thinkers and know who they are. Understanding, experiencing and engaging with a range of personal development including mindfulness, gratefulness, resilience, worship, and spiritual development in a supportive, Jesus-centred environment.
Pathways
Beginning in Year 10, students are able to make choices about a range of elective subjects to suit their individual interests. Individual journeys personalised to every student and offered an extensive range of opportunities; exploring gifts and unearthing passions that contribute to the School, Community and the world around us, whatever that looks like.
Signature Programs
Our vision is to provide opportunities for the King’s student body access to a range of music endeavours, regardless of individual ability in order to promote lifelong musical interests.
Student’s involvement in the co-curricular music programs aims to develop life skills and musical knowledge, which ensure a healthy and well-balanced approach to life. Students can benefit from involvement in our musical programs with the opportunity to compete in a competitive and non-competitive atmosphere, while being supported by family and friends.
King’s has a strong vocal program offering three choirs: Reception-Year 5, Year 6-Year 12, and auditioned group harmony. These vocal ensembles rehearse weekly and regularly perform at school and community events.
The heart of this course is learning about the world of fine coffee. Students will learn barista-style coffee making and alternative brewing techniques to extract the fine flavours from the roasted beans. This will provide the foundation skills in coffee brewing and serving, and the course provides opportunity for weekly work experience during lunchtime at school.
Students will learn sensory evaluation skills to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for specialty coffees. They will examine ethical and sustainable issues in the area of coffee farming, as well as safe and hygienic processes when handling coffee. They will gain insight into the food and hospitality industry, and practise important communication skills as they serve coffee. On occasions, they will also be introduced to basic patisserie making skills.
At King’s, we know that in good measure, discomfort can inspire us to action, heighten our awareness and motivate us to change both perceptions and attitudes.
From three nights in the Flinders Ranges with Year 10s, through to bushwalking, rock climbing and snow skiing in Year 11 and Year 12, the King’s Outdoor Education program is designed to safely, and securely, allow our students to experience hardship, to take risks, and ultimately awaken an understanding of their own capabilities.
While Outdoor Education is about getting back to nature and having an adventure, it also presents students with choices and opportunities. It asks our students to count their blessings and appreciate all that is provided for us in God’s world - the good, the bad, the easy, the hard.
Pedal Prix involves racing Human Powered Vehicles, (HPVs) in an annual series of race events, culminating in a 24 hour race - which is the biggest event of this type in the world. The Pedal Prix vehicles are highly engineered and of lightweight chrome-moly chassis construction to optimise performance, while offering the driver significant crash protection inside a carbon fibre fairing.
Students are exposed to performing tasks required from pit crew members at Pedal Prix events. The also learn MIG, Braze and Fusion Oxy Acetylene welding techniques, and apply these skills in real-world industrial and entrepreneurial design solution tasks.
While involvement in the Pedal Prix program is open to all students in Year 8-Year 12, there is also a specific opportunity for Year 10 students to undertake a full year course. This course is an accredited Stage 1 SACE program and students will gain 20 credits towards their SACE.
King’s offers many student mentoring programs and opportunities. We believe in the value of mentoring relationships and the benefits these can have for all students. Our student mentoring involves well-being groups, social skills groups and Bible study groups. These programs are led by our students, and facilitated and supervised by staff. Students involved learn leadership skills, build confidence and allow for friendships across year levels to flourish.
